Gyobutsuji

Practice Home of Gyobutsu Zen Community

Welcome

Gyobutsuji (Practice Buddha Temple) is a small monastic practice place devoted to the practice of zazen. Located in the Ozark mountains of Northwestern Arkansas, practice at Gyobutsuji aims to realize the spirit of the ancient teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and Eihei Dogen Zenji through the contemporary Soto Zen practice styles of Kosho Uchiyama Roshi and his Dharma heir, Shohaku Okumura Roshi.

Practice

By rooting our lives deeply in the simple practice of shikantaza (just sitting), we aspire to allow zazen to blossom as the foundation for every activity in every aspect of our lives.

Lineage

Practice at Gyobutsuji is grounded in the Soto Zen tradition and guided by Shoryu Bradley. Shoryu’s Dharma ancestors include his teacher, Shohaku Okumura, Kosho Uchiyama, and Kodo Sawaki. To learn more about our lineage, click below.
